Housekeeping

Please let us know if you require the superking bed as it is set up as twin as standard.

Also can I ask that you strip the beds you’ve used before departure.

Many thanks for your help,

Walks

If you feel like a walk from the cottage you can try going down to Sparket Mill. Head down towards Ullswater and you’ll come to a small hamlet after about 1/4 mile. Turn right through Sparket and then up the road. It’s very quiet. You’ll come across a footpath sign on your right after a short while and head over to Hutton over the fields. Once you get to Hutton you go over a stile on a dry stone wall. Go over the bridge in Hutton turn right and you’ll find yourself back at Home Farm after about 1/4 mile.

You can get to Dacre and the Horse and Farrier from Home Farm by heading back up the hill toward the A66. You’ll see a footpath on your right where the gate is set back from the road. This leads you to Dacre and fabulous views before you arrive!

Kitchen

There are some cloths, soap, tea towels and oven gloves.

1. Nespresso machine
Fill water container at the back of the machine.
Turn on and lights will flash until the machine is ready to use.
Put capsule in the top of machine.
Press button for large cup or small. You can fill up with more hot water if you like.
The used capsule will drop into the bottom of the machine. Simply pull the drip tray section forward to remove used capsules.

2. Oven
Press temp and mode selection buttons so they pop out.
You can then select oven or grill. It is a fan oven. The door pulls down and then slides under the oven if you need it to. Select the temperature you need.

3. Dishwasher
Turn on
Select programme. I would use eco 50.
Then press the start button.
There are some dishwasher tablets for you under the sink.

4. Blue Tooth Speaker

Turn on and the volume buttons are on the side of the device – plus and minus. This was obvious to my son, but not to an old girl like me! I wouldn’t download the app as the instructions suggest, just sync your device.

Utility

1. Washing machine
Turn it on
Turn dial to select programme.
You can pick temperature and spin speed if you like.
Press start.

Choose whether you want to use the microwave, grill or conventional oven. (There is a circular grill pan on tripod legs in the cupboard underneath the microwave.)
The machine will then prompt you as to what to do next, i.e. defrost or the temperature you want.
If you need further information the manual is in the kitchen.

5. Recycling and Bins

Please could you empty all the internal bins (in bathrooms etc) before you leave. There are boxes for recycling in the utility. Please recycle only the items listed on the box and put the recycling boxes out by the outside rubbish bin on the day you leave. Many thanks.

There are TV and radio channels available.
The DVD player is integrated in to the TV.

It is the fastest Wi-fi available.

Can be bought from the Rheged petrol station or WCF in Penrith (next to Booths).

Septic tank

As we don’t have mains sewerage please can I ask you to not put sanitary products, cotton wool or nappies down the loo. Anything bulky will clog the septic tank and stop it working.

Miscellaneous

You can alter the heating by turning the radiator thermostats, up or down.

Guest soaps are provided in each bathroom,

We love the red squirrels, but they like to be fed, so if you are keen to see them you can top up the nut box, I can’t guarantee they’ll appear but they adore hazelnuts! You can buy your own nuts from the Bird’s Biatro in Penruddock and I have also left a box of hazlenuts and peanuts.

Places to Eat (Close by)

Brackenrigg Inn, (017684 86206) Watermillock is two miles away, just head down to the lake through Bennet Head. It has spectacular views.

Herdwick Inn (017684 83007) at Penruddock is 11/2 miles away and does a good selection of food.

Sportman’s Inn (017684 83231) is 5 minutes drive from Penruddock and is good for kids and serves good pub grub.

Lastly

Hope you have a lovely stay in the Lakes.
