Luxury Lake district cabins at hutton john estate

Our bespoke, L-shaped cabins are situated in the heart of the Estate, located in the Northern Lake District. Highgate Cabins are a quiet retreat away from the main Lake District haunts, with easy access from the M6. Enjoy luxury cabins in the Lake District, surrounded by nature.

Most recently, our cabin collection has grown with our fourth and final Herdwick Cabin, and our secluded shepherd’s lodge, Gardener’s Retreat, set within the Estate’s walled garden. Both additions are brand new for 2024.

The Cabins

Immersed in nature, our locally manufactured, bespoke cabins offer a private nook of luxury in a serene setting. Made using locally-sourced larch, our secluded cabins nestle within their natural surroundings. Wake up to beautiful, uninterrupted Lake District views thanks to the L-shape layout and relax in the hot tubs whilst soaking up the stunning surroundings.

Underfloor heating, beautiful interiors chosen thoughtfully by Kate and mood-enhancing views ensure that whatever the temperamental Cumbrian weather might be doing, our cabins are snug, inviting and a place where you can truly switch off.

Brand new for 2024 and set away from the other four cabins for total seclusion, the Gardener’s retreat is a spacious shepherd’s lodge located amongst the flora and fauna within the Estate’s walled garden.

Cosy and compact, The Gardener’s Retreat offers luxurious open-plan living with a comfortable bed, thick down duvet and soft Egyptian cotton sheets and external wood-fired hot tub for ultimate luxury. The fully-equipped kitchen comes complete with Joseph Joseph accessories, Portmeirion crockery, hob and oven.

The quadrangle

The Quadrangle is the perfect place for al fresco dining, picnicking or just sitting back to enjoy a good book in the sunshine. Surrounded by charming heritage outbuildings, the tucked away area is for all cabin guests to use.

From here you can start exploring the Estate and the Lakes with a footpath that will take you on a charming walk down to Dacre. You’ll see Dacre Beck at the bottom of the valley winding its way eastwards. On your way back you’ll get a great view of Hutton John. Alternatively you can walk through Brow wood. There are so many birds and animals to be seen, hares, badgers, deer and of course lots of sheep – this is the Lake District after all! When creating our cabins, the environment was at the forefront of our minds so we have ensured that they have several strong eco-credentials including using solar panels for power and locally sourced materials where possible.
