The Gardener’s Retreat is a charming traditional shepherd’s lodge for two, nestled within the serene, walled garden of the Estate. Surrounded by an abundance of wildlife, including hares, squirrels, and the occasional deer, this peaceful retreat offers a unique opportunity to experience nature at its finest.
The walled garden itself spans an acre of beautifully landscaped, private garden, shared with the Gardener’s Bothy, providing a serene and tranquil atmosphere. With views extending across to the Ullswater fells, it’s the perfect place to unwind and reconnect with the natural world.
Inside, the retreat offers a cosy yet luxurious open-plan living space, featuring a comfortable bed with a thick down duvet and soft Egyptian cotton sheets. The fully-equipped kitchen is thoughtfully designed with Joseph Joseph accessories, Portmeirion crockery, and modern appliances, including a hob and oven, ensuring a pleasant and convenient stay.
The well-appointed shower room includes a power shower, vanity unit, WC, and complimentary all-natural Bath House toiletries for your comfort.
Designed by Kate, the earthy terracotta and brown-toned interiors create a calm, restorative atmosphere that complements the tranquillity of this quiet corner of the Estate.
For those seeking a moment of relaxation after a hard day exploring, the wheelchair-accessible paved patio area, complete with outdoor seating and wood-fired hot tub, offers the perfect place to unwind beneath the star-filled sky.

We’re ideally located for you to explore the Lake District and enjoy a Cumbrian retreat, with Penrith, Pooley Bridge and Keswick within easy driving distance and local amenities including a post office and pub a couple of miles away in Greystoke.
