Glorious autumn colours in the Lakes
I don’t have a favourite time of year. I enjoy living in a country where we have distinct seasons so I couldn’t live anywhere where it was just hot, hot, hot. Recently, I met a lovely family from Kuwait who stayed at one of my holiday cottages. I made sure the heating was on even though it wa August. I went to check they had settled in to find all the windows and doors open! How naive I was, they loved being in the Lakes just because they could dispense withe the sir conditioning and have the windows wide open and relish the fresh air. They looked

forward to the rain and the different weather patterns. Variety is the spice of life so they say and yes it rains a lot in the Lakes, particularly in Autumn but the Autumn leaves are a wonderful sight. the weather may be cold and wet, but the lease turn a warm, burnished colour from yellow through orange to red. If you are lucky and ther has been some dry weather the leaves become crisped crunchy underfoot and who doesn’t like walking through such noise. Each step making some Autumn music.

It makes you think of open fires and conker picking and rosy wind-swept cheeks. My husband would say I can be a bit too romantic and overly cheerful, but Autumn is a lovely time of year. The leaves turn yellow and red and then they fall to the floor almost like a rain storm when the wind blows a hooly. Within a few weeks the tress will be denuded of their leafy attire and settle down for Winter, all except the evergreens which are so much more stoical, though not quite so attractive to my mind.
