New Business, New Dog, Bad Idea?

Lake District Holiday Lets and Shadow

Isn’t she cute? Well yes, but she knows it. She is also clever enough to know when she has done something she shouldn’t like, eating my shoes or eating sheep poo whilst out on a walk. As yet, though she knows she shouldn’t do it, she can’t refrain from trying my patience. Everyone keeps saying “she’s only young”. I suppose with perseverance and consistent training she will grow out of these childish shenanigans. However it is a bit like having a new baby, not as exhausting, but I had forgotten how much work a new puppy generates!

It might not be so bad but starting a new business at the same time has proved challenging. We have spent the last few months renovating two houses and turning them in to holiday lets. Very exciting, but lots to keep me occupied. My husband was offered a black lab puppy and I was persuaded a new dog would be a wonderful addition to the family. Having a new business there is so much to do, whilst trying to fit in dog walks and letting her out of the house to go to the loo. I get up half an hour earlier now to take her for a walk. Strangely that sets me up for the day and gives me a renewed energy to face whatever is in store. Plus it is so quiet early in the morning, there’s no-one about and the early morning sun is so calming and serene. It’s a great time to think or clear the head. Shadow stays close by me when we go out walking, never straying too far from my side. So her name, which was given to her by my son, is so very apt. She is my shadow. Hindsight is a wonderful thing but we wouldn’t be with out her now. How could you resist this face?
