Perfect June days in the Lake District

June 16, 2026

There’s something special about June days in the Lake District. The evenings linger long into the night, the landscapes are bursting into life and, best of all, the summer holiday crowds haven’t quite arrived yet.

It’s the season for slower mornings, spontaneous adventures and peaceful evenings back at your cabin or cottage with nothing but birdsong and fell views around you.

For couples looking to escape before peak summer begins, here are some of our favourite ways to spend a perfect June day in the Northern Lakes.

Explore Ullswater by E-Bike

If you want to see more of the Lakes without tackling every hill under your own steam, Ullswater E-Bikes is the perfect place to start.

Their electric bikes make exploring the Ullswater valley feel effortless, giving you more time to soak up the scenery and less time worrying about the climbs. Cruise along quiet country lanes, lakeside roads and woodland trails while taking in some of the best views in the National Park.

June is ideal for it too with warmer weather, quieter roads and long daylight hours that mean there’s no need to rush back.

Paddleboarding on Ullswater

Few things feel more peaceful than being out on the water on a calm June morning.

Wake & Surf Paddleboarding offers paddleboard hire and experiences on Ullswater, giving you the chance to explore hidden bays and quiet stretches of shoreline at your own pace.

Early summer often brings still water and quieter lake conditions, making it one of the best times for beginners to give it a go. Pack a towel, drift along the shoreline and finish the afternoon with a lakeside coffee in Pooley Bridge.

Slow down with a spa day

For days where relaxation is the only plan, head over to Lodore Falls Spa near Keswick.

With its outdoor hydrotherapy pool, fellside views and thermal suite, it’s the perfect rainy-day escape or post-walk recovery session. Spend the afternoon moving between saunas, steam rooms and outdoor pools before heading back to your cabin for an evening in the hot tub.

June weekdays are often much quieter too, meaning you can enjoy the spa without the peak season buzz.

Learn something new together

A Lake District break doesn’t always have to mean hiking boots and mountain summits.

Quirky Workshops runs creative experiences nearby where you can try everything from pottery and printmaking to candle-making and crafts. It’s a lovely way to slow the pace down and do something a little different during your stay.

Perfect for couples looking for a more relaxed day,  especially if the weather turns.

Pony trekking through the countryside

For a completely different perspective on the landscape, head to Rookin House Pony Trekking.

Their treks take you through beautiful countryside with incredible views across the Northern Lakes and Eden Valley. Whether you’re complete beginners or experienced riders, it’s one of those memorable Lake District experiences that feels wonderfully peaceful in early summer.

The perfect Ullswater day out

If you only do one thing during your June stay, make it this.

Hop aboard Ullswater Steamers from Pooley Bridge and sail down the lake towards Howtown. From there, take the quieter lakeside walk back along Ullswater’s western shore.

This stretch of the lake feels wonderfully untouched, especially in June before the main summer rush. Along the route you’ll pass secluded beaches like Sandwick Bay, hidden picnic spots and some of the most peaceful scenery in the area.

Finish with a bite to eat in Glenridding before catching the steamer back across the water.

A slow day, done properly.

Take to the fells

June is arguably one of the best walking months in the Lake District. The temperatures are comfortable, the trails quieter and the landscapes at their greenest.

Whether you fancy a gentle lakeside wander or a bigger fell day, our guide to The Best Walks in the Northern Lake District has plenty of inspiration for getting outdoors during your stay.

Then return to your cabin for a long soak in the wood-fired hot tub and an evening under the stars.

Stay before summer arrives

There’s a reason June is one of our favourite times of year at Hutton. The Lake District feels calmer, slower and more connected to nature before the school holidays begin.

Our adults-only cabins are designed for exactly that kind of escape – luxury interiors, wood-fired hot tubs, dog-friendly stays and peaceful surroundings made for switching off properly.
