The Last Rose

Autumn Blooms

A Final Flourish in the Lakes

Coming round the corner of the house I came across this beautiful solitary white rose. At that moment it was still a bud and then inevitably, a few days later, it bloomed as you see it here. I say inevitably, but in November I think to find a perfect white rose is remarkable. Eventhough we haven’t had any very hard frosts, the weather has not been rose weather. The shrub had stopped flowering, or so thought in August and yet it had one last surprise. It was planted a long time ago, probably about 50 years ago and it has never been very successful, but we have persevered with it and this year it very much enjoyed the dry Summer. I haven’t seen so many blooms on it, ever and then it performs a little miracle and flowers in November in the Lake District. Mother nature is quite amazing. She is so resilient, never gives up and just keeps going. In these unusual and interesting times Mother Nature, as always, gives us something to think about and possibly to aspire to.
